BIOGRAPHY
Shirley Lam was born and resides in Honolulu, Hawai’i. She grew up in a bilingual household with parents who immigrated from Hong Kong and China. She started out in dance which eventually lead her to photography. Some of her work has been exhibited in Honolulu, Hi. She received her BFA at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa with the focus in photography.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Recognized for my lyrical and poetic imagery, my gaze is drawn to the quiet vignettes of everyday life. I see photography as a visual form of poetic expressions. I use my camera to teach me to see the physical environment, and to connect my past experiences and memories. Through photography, I explore deeper meanings and connections between metaphors, dreams, reality, time and space.
